We are almost at the end of 2025. After 50 days of shutdown, the government has decided to re-open and end the paid vacation of Congress. Which leads to the question do we really need a President or a Congress. Of course we do.
If not, who would there be dancing in the new billion-dollar ballroom? I will wait with bated breath for my invitation to the ball in 2026. I need to start looking for a gown and be ready when my invite arrives in January.
The weather has finally cooled down, but the wind is not wanted. Are we ever satisfied? Cold like in the 70s is okay, but I don’t want a cold, wet Thanksgiving or Christmas.
•Tuesday was Veterans Day. I hope everyone remembered to honor and thank a person who served their country in the military on that day, no matter what the weather was doing.
My brother and my husband served in the Air Force, but they are gone now, so my day was spent quietly at the Martin Senior Citizen Center where the Veterans were served a free lunch of gratitude for their service. If it were up to me, the Veterans would eat free every day of the year.
•I moved to Trinity in the summer of 1997 and was surprised to see how much activity went in a town of 2,000 people. The streets were rolled up on Saturday and Sunday by five o’clock, but the holidays were always booming. There was a group of entrepreneurs who always seemed to have their hands on the pulse of the city and involved in everything.
My first small town experience was the Street Dance on the Four of July downtown. My second community experience was the 49th Trinity Community Fair in September; my third experience was the bonfire at the high school homecoming football event; and my fourth experience was the was the 49th Trinity Chamber of Commerce Christmas Show downtown that was held in the First National Bank Parking lot.
It was the best of times and the beginning of Trinity’s growth spurt around Lake Livingston and the subdivisions in Trinity County. The only thing I did not understand was the rivalry between Groveton and Trinity. Neither one had much to offer in the way of enterprise, but both cities thought they housed the Taj Mahal. Twenty-seven years later, downtown main streets of both cities still house the same two red lights.
•Only 14 days left until Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, the fourth Thursday of November every year. I will have the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner for Thanksgiving Day, but at Christmas I am up to having different sides and entrees as we are not all about eating but having presents and fun.
