Indians claim doubleheader from Alto

GROVETON — The Indians had no trouble with the Yellowjackets Friday, downing Alto in two games ended by the run rule.

Groveton won 16-1 in the first game and 20-6 in the second.

In the first game, Groveton took some time warming up, scoring only 4 runs to Alto’s 1 in the first two innings; however, in the bottom of the third the Indians rocked the Alto pitcher for 12 runs to end the game early.

Ty Torregrossa, Jackson Cathey and Jack Sullivan each had 2 hits apiece to lead the offense, with Torregrossa claiming a 2-run triple.

Torregrossa also dominated on the mound, allowing only 3 hits while striking out 2.

In the second game, a 12-run third inning again put the game out of reach, and in the fifth, Groveton added 7 more runs for the win.

Torregrossa, Brody Thornton, Tanner Steubing and Jack Sullivan each had 2 hits apiece to lead the offense.

Steubing and Cathey shared mound duty, combining for 8 strikeouts while allowing 8 hits.

Apple Springs

The Eagles claimed their own pair of games from Wells, winning 4-3 on Thursday and 5-4 on Friday.

In the Thursday game, Zeth Dugat and Nathan Smith each had 2 hits apiece to lead the offense.

Dugat and Dakota Campbell shared mound duty, combining for 17 strikeouts while allowing only 4 hits.

On Friday, Smith had the lone hit in the win, while the rest of the lineup trotted the bases on 10 walks.

Campbell and Tristen Eddins traded off pitching, tossing 13 strikeouts while allowing only 5 hits.

Centerville

The Bulldogs fell to Kennard twice last week, losing 21-3 on April 9 and 20-2 on Friday.

Trinity

The Tigers lost two to Anderson-Shiro — 21-1 on Wednesday and 19-4 on Friday.

Girls

Groveton

The Lady Indians continue their romp through district rivals and a slow-but-steady rise in state rankings with two wins — a 13-3 drubbing of Douglass on April 9 and 12-2 downing of Alto on Friday.

Trinity

The Lady Tigers lost to district rival Anderson-Shiro 21-4 on Friday.
