WOODVILLE – Woodville Lions Club president James Stevens welcomed Polk County Publishing Company’s Kelli Barnes to keynote the club’s Thursday evening meeting on Nov 13.
Barnes told about her mother’s Gloria Russell Children’s Ministry (GRCM) that has thrived in Colmesneil for decades. Having started in Lufkin, after her father retired, they bought a place down the road from where Barnes now lives.
The ministry’s Victory Day Camps are legend for elementary school students. Though her mother still runs the show, all Barnes’ siblings share in the privilege of hosting camps and Bible studies in Colmesneil and in school Bible clubs in several counties.
Barnes spoke of a love for Tyler County, and worked up in the Booster to manager, then publisher over the Booster and several more newspapers and other publications within the PCPC stable.
Though not quite a native to Tyler County, having arrived at 20, she proudly noted all her kids were born here.
The GRCM is a 501(c)(3) that runs with a host of dedicated unpaid volunteers. They will accept donations and are currently selling tickets for a drawing on two exquisite original oil paintings.
