Chester Gas breaks even

CHESTER  – Chester Mayor Robert Poynter half-jokingly mentioned he would like to frame the spreadsheet print indicating their Chester Gas Company had zero loss, another first for this industrious mayor.

At their regular meeting Monday evening, July 7, the council heard from Loretta Hubert,

a healthcare professional, about her desire to get an ambulance service stationed in Chester. She had talked with several services already and some in Natchitoches.

Hubert was sad to find out that the city took no tax revenue from its meager 270 residents. Poynter kindly pointed out that he and others did not want any more tax burden, though they too wished they had an ambulance closer at hand.

Hubert pointed out the excessive timeframe for Tyler County’s two ambulance services, and that was if those had no ongoing or preemptive emergencies.

City Secretary Baela Weaver had been coordinating with the resourceful Hubert who also had lined up an appointment to meet with the Chester Volunteer Fire Department this week.  Hubert had talked with Pct 2 Justice of the Peace Ken Jobe who supported her efforts and who also worked in the same hospital system as she did.

A Polk County resident (and friend of Hubert) was present at the meeting and stated a concern about getting her 911 address fixed. Weaver said she had been aiding some Chester citizens and a few Tyler County citizens near Chester to getting their 911 addresses corrected.  Weaver told the Polk County resident she was encouraged to see the Polk County clerk on updating her 911 address.

Weaver mentioned that Melissa Bendy was trying to get volunteer donations for gift cards to Lowe’s and Home Depot for the tragic surviving victims in the Texas hill country flood. Poynter was open to any personal donation, though the city had no funds for such.  Weaver mentioned that any wanting to donate could call Bendy at 936-676-5585.
