CHESTER – Chester City Secretary Balela Weaver informed the council that she had made progress on her request to the Chester BOM Bank for a city gift at the city’s council meeting on Monday evening, August 4.
Balela said the bank through its supervising bank in Natchitoches, Louisiana, offers substantial gifts to the cities in which they have a bank. Chester hopes to secure a $20,000 gift for a digital sign that can broadcast city and city-sponsored events, county notices like fire bans, and other services to keep the citizens better informed.
Mayor Robert Poynter facilitated as substantial discussion on the city and Chester Gas Company consolidated their numerous CDs into the CDs for the respective entities at the highest rate possible. Councilman Wes Whitworth made the final motion to empower Poynter and Mayor pro-tem Bryan Davis to finalize the transitions. That transition will take place after the signature cards at the banks are updated.
A group is wanting to use the city tennis courts for a game and promises to clean it up for free, and the city will give them cleaning supplies.
