Chester teams get wins against Colmesneil

The Lady Jacket softball team defeated the Colmesneil Lady Bulldogs 21-11 in 5 innings of play on Friday, March 13. Jorja Barnes drove in six runs on three hits. Barnes singled in the first scoring two, singled in the fourth scoring two, and walked in the third scoring one. The Lady Jackets jumped ahead early, scoring 9 runs in the first inning. In the third inning the Lady Jackets added another 7 runs with help from a double by Tegan Toler. Toler and Kennedi Wilson collected two hits each. Toler also added three RBI’s.

Wilson and Allie Ogden each had two RBI’s while Ty Cochran, Joyanna Lopez, Sadie Garsee and Kendal Watton each added one RBI. Jorja Barnes and Lillie Byrd had four runs, Kennedi Wilson and Sadie Garsee had three, Ty Cochran scored twice, Tegan Toler, Allie Ogden, Joyanna Lopez, and Kendal Watton crossed the plate one time each. 

This week the Lady Jackets start district play against Burkeville at home on Tuesday, March 17 at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, March 20 they will travel to Brookeland for a 5 p.m. game time. 


‘Jackets win against ‘Dogs

The Yellowjacket baseball team also picked up a 4-1 win from the Colmesneil Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 10. Jesse Bittick hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the Jackets on the board. Jaxon Gay doubled in the third inning driving in another run. Bittick and Coltin Kosina added to the RBI’s with one each. Bryson Swanson stole two bases. Greyson Rosencranz was a golden glove in the field with a diving play, a leaping catch, and two double plays. Jaxon Gay was on the bump for the Jackets allowing two hits and zero runs, zero walks, and four strike outs. Turner Johnson came in as relief and allowed one hit, one run, and had two strikeouts. 

On March 6 and 7 the Jackets took a road trip to participate in the Abbott Tournament. Jaxon Gay had an .857 average for the weekend with 6 hits, two RBI’s, 3 walks, no strikeouts, 8 stolen bases, and scoring 7 times. Jesse Bittick added another home run to his resume and finished with a .667 average with 4 hits, 5 RBI’s, two runs, one walk, 3 hit by pitch, and one stolen base. Turner Johnson hit a .500 with 4 hits, two RBI’s, one walk, no strikeouts, one hit by pitch, and four stolen bases. Bryson Swanson had a .429 with three hits, 3 RBI’s, 5 runs, two walks, no strikeouts, and two stolen bases. Coltin Kosina, Greyson Rosencranz, Rex Gilzow, each added multiple hits and RBI’s while Jayse Gay and Henry David had one hit and several RBI’s as well. Masen Pursley and Jett Johnson added one run as pinch runners. Several Jackets helped in the circle. Jayse Gay threw 4 innings, Greyson Rosencranz and Jesse Bittick each threw two, Rex Gilzow helped with one inning, and Coltin Kosina threw to four batters. 

This week the Jackets will continue district play by travelling to Brookeland on Friday, March 20 with a 6 p.m. game time.   



The Yellowjacket track team had a good showing in West Hardin with the boys’ team finishing fourth and the girls team finishing sixth. Allie Ogden finished first in discus, Lauren Citrano placed 6th in long jump, and Jorja Barnes placed 6th in triple jump. For the running events, Sadie Garsee placed third in 100m, Joyanna Lopez placed 6th in 200m, Malia Handley 5th in 800m. The 4x100 relay team Lauren Citrano, Kennedi Wilson, Joyanna Lopez, and Sadie Garsee placed third. The 4x200 relay with Wilson, Lopez, Garsee, and Malia Handley finished fourth.

On the boys’ side, Kasen Citrano placed 4th in shot put, Ethan Gray was 5th in high jump, and Turner Johnson placed second in both the long jump and triple jump. In running events Jaxon Gay won the 100m sprint, Ethan Gray placed 4th in 110 hurdles. The 4x100 relay with Jesse Bittick, Kasen Citrano, Greyson Rosencranz, and Jaxon Gay placed 2nd. The 4x200 relay with Citrano, Gay, Turner Johnson, and Bryson Swanson finished third. 

This week the track team will travel to Big Sandy with field events starting at 9:30 a.m.
