NACOGDOCHES – The Stephen F. Austin Azalea Garden is partnering with the School of Art to launch a new sculpture walk, adding original works of art to their beloved natural gardens. The project transforms the garden into a destination where art and nature meet.
Danny Clements, a Chester-based artist and the first Master of Fine Arts recipient at SFASU, was honored to be given a retrospective exhibit last year (a retrospective showcases an overview of an artist’s work over his career.)
Danny has created artworks in all types of media. Since returning to Chester with his wife Janet, he has created more than 40 exterior sculptures. Three of his works were selected for the display at SFA gardens.
The yearlong art exhibition is encountered by the visitor while strolling through the beautiful Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden located in Nacogdoches, off Vista drive (behind most of the college buildings). This garden has two especially memorial seasons. In the spring it is covered with thousands of azalea flowers and in the late fall the Japanese Maples are an amazing sight to behold. The gardens and the art exhibit are open to the public.
