Courthouse doors, broadband topics on county agenda

WOODVILLE – On Monday morning, during the regular meeting of the Tyler County Commissioners Court, the commissioners approved a proposal from LaBiche Architectural Group, Inc., to install interior and exterior doors in the courthouse.

The restoration of four doors on the first and second floors of the building was not done during the Phase II work of the courthouse restoration project, which was completed in 2023, and overseen by LaBiche.

In June, members of the Tyler County Historical Commission and the Tyler County Courthouse Restoration Preservation Project, Inc., offered funds, raised from fundraising efforts undertaken by the organizations, to reimburse the county up to $65K on the project.

TCHC members Sarah Clymer and Mary Hall met with LaBiche last fall to put a proposal together, which outlines a scope of work on the project to be performed at a fixed fee of $20K, which includes construction administration.

Pct. 1 Commissioner Joe Blacksher said it was exciting to put into action what had been already discussed for the project and thanked the Historical Commission for the donation.

Broadband expansion support adopted

The commissioners adopted a support letter and news release concerning Spectrums broadband expansion. Pct. 3 Commissioner Mike Marshall read the news release, written by Tyler County Judge Milton Powers, on Powers’s behalf.

In his comments, Powers wrote that the planned broadband expansion is a significant investment that will greatly benefit both residents and businesses in the county, providing an enhancement to their abilities to serve, as well as gather resources and opportunities for expansion. “The improved internet connectivity will also support the growth and development of our local economy,” stated Powers in the news release.

Other Business

During Mondays meeting, the commissioners approved the following items of business on the agenda:

• The commissioners accepted the resignation of Jill Dinger from the Emergency Services District 1, and the subsequent appointment of Kay Beard to serve in the position opened by Dinger’s resignation.

• The lease purchase agreement with First National Bank of Wichita Falls in the amount of $85,350 for a 2026 Anthem Mack Truck for Pct. 4.

Special meeting called

On Thursday, July 17 at 10 a.m., the Commissioners Court will hold a special-called meeting with the following items on the agenda:

• To consider the purchase by the Tyler County Sheriffs Office of two Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicles from Caldwell Country Chevrolet, at the cost of $113,560.

• To consider a conditional approval of Parkers RV Park in Pct. 3, pending the inspection of the application by a GLS engineer.
