Eagles soar over Owls

The Woodville Eagles varsity football team improved their record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in District 12 AA Division 2 with a 48-27 victory over the Anderson-Shiro Owls last Friday night at Eagle Stadium. 

This was a bounce back game for Woodville as they dropped the last game to district rival Newton. Other league victories resulted in two lopsided victories of 53-6 against Trinity and 58-0 over Warren.  

Sophomore quarterback led the Eagles passing attack by completing 13 of 25 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Kevnte McDaniel for 13 yards. 

Running back Dustin Barlow led the team in rushing for 200 yards on 27 carries scoring three touchdowns. Zayon Williams had a solid ground game carrying the ball 16 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Babin contributed 29 yards on nine quarterback keepers.

McDaniel also led Woodville in receiving with five receptions for 60 yards. Kenneth Rigsby added 46 yards on three catches, while Gage Tolar added 44 yards on three grabs. Tanner Ladoux also caught a pass from Babin for four yards.  

Freshman Marquis Menefee graded out best defensively with nine tackles, two assists, a tackle for loss and a quarterback sack. Tayvion Hunter had another special night with 2 tackles, 2 assists, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a quarterback rush. Wesley Walsh forced and recovered a fumble for the Eagles.  

The Eagles will return to action this Friday night in New Waverly to take on the Bulldogs at 7. The junior varsity will be home on Thursday, while the middle school will travel.  

Lady Eagles action, cross-country updates

  The Lady Eagles volleyball team will travel to Diboll Friday and finish the regular season at Home Tuesday. Tuesday will be Senior Night. Woodville is currently in second place behind state ranked Central Heights.  

   Aleena Burkes and Rhea Williams will represent the Lady Eagles in the Regional cross-country meet in Huntsville.

In other WISD sports news, the Woodville High School girls’ basketball team will scrimmage the Kirbyville Lady Wildcats on Saturday.
