Eagles topple Warriors

WARREN – A season full of struggles on the road resulted in some success, at last, for the Woodville Eagles. The Eagles travelled south to take on their only in-county opponents, the Warren Warriors, on Friday.

By the end of the third quarter, the Eagles had a solid 27-point lead on the Warriors and finished with a 42-13 final score.

Junior running back Austin Land turned in a solid performance, with 15 rushes for 223 yards and three touchdowns scored, plus a successful two-point conversion. It was Land’s fourth in a row with at least two rushing TDs.

The Eagles notched three passes off the Warriors’ quarterback Caleb Houghton throughout the game, and Eagles Adalius Williams, Kolton Falkenberry and Landon Harris all scored one apiece.

Eagle junior lineman Nasir Harris also turned in a standout defensive turn with 13 tackles on the Warriors, 10 of them solo.

The Eagles now sit at a 2-5 overall season record, while Friday’s game left Warren with a 3-4 record, now on a four-game losing streak.

Woodville will face Kountze at home on Friday, with a 7 p.m. kickoff, while the Warriors will travel to Newton to take on that band of Eagles at 7 p.m., as well.

For the Woodville game, it is the Youth League and Middle School Night as well as “Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness” night.

All of the youth league players and cheerleaders will join the varsity Eagle team as they run out onto the field from the tunnel before the game. Also, if any breast cancer survivors are present, they are welcome to join the team on the field before the kick off, for the coin toss, if they would like to be honored.
