FRED – A two-vehicle accident near Fred claimed the life of a 62-year-old resident last Wednesday.
According to Sgt. Shana Clark with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the wreck occurred near Fred, on FM 92, just north of the community, on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that on that morning, at approximately 6:58 a.m., a motorist in a Dodge Ram pickup truck was headed north on FM 92, and struck a Chevrolet HHR, which was exiting a private driveway, to attempt a left-bound turn onto the highway, according to Clark.
The Chevrolet had failed to yield the right-of-way and the driver, who was later identified as 62-year-old Thomas Okana of Fred, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Tina Self.
The driver of the Ram, identified as Shylee Eddings, a 24-year-old Silsbee resident, was transported to Christus Memorial Southeast hospital for possible non-life threatening injuries.
