SPURGER – Emily Grace Fea, who is a 17-year-old student at Spurger High School, is the reigning Miss Southeast Texas Teen. Fea, according to her grandmother Susan Jenkins is “a small-town girl with big dreams.”

Fea, who is a junior at Spurger High School, is the daughter of Bo and Crystal Fea, lives in Fred and is involved in many extracurricular activities at her school, including cheerleading. It is the pageant circuit that has added a busy itinerary to her already busy life.

Fea is going for the gold at the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant, which is held in Richardson, in June. That pageant is a preliminary event for the Miss America Teen contest, which operates as part of the “Miss America” pageant organization.

Fea was crowned as “Miss Southeast Texas Teen,” last August at a contest held in Atacosita.

When Fea was competing for the title of “Miss Southeast Texas Teen,” she won for the best interview and best talent portions of the competition.

Now, Fea has an opportunity to not only win the title of “Miss Texas Teen USA,” but also a prize package, which includes scholarship monies.

Jenkins said that Fea has a great talent for dancing and will feature that in the upcoming competition.

“Emily has worked hard preparing for this moment, she will compete in interview, evening gown, fitness and talent. She is a dancer and will perform a lyrical piece for the talent portion,” she said.

For the Miss Texas Teen pageant, the competition is divided into three different main categories, according to the website for the organization: the evening gown, personal interview and activewear. The judges look for an all-around winner, and while the winner, according to the website “may not be the most outstanding in any one category,” that girl is the one who “may score well in all categories,” with judging based on poise, personality, intelligence and beauty.

Her grandmother said that Fea is “is excited and honored to represent her hometown county and all of the surrounding areas and hopes to make Southeast Texas proud.”
