The Yellowjacket football season came to a heartbreaking end against Union Hill in the Area matchup on Nov. 21.
When interviewed, Coach Coleman Butter had this to say: “Our season definitely ended too early. But there were many successes and accomplishments throughout. Finishing 10-2 on the year is huge. Best season since 2014. We added to our school history and can be very proud of that.
“District and Bi-District Championships are special accomplishments. Our team ranked amongst the tops in the state all year statistically with scoring. Led by Senior Jaxon Gay, Senior Jesse Bittick and Junior Kasen Citrano. The three of which combined for thousands of yards of offense and dozens and dozens of touchdowns. Many teams in the six-man world only have one guy of their caliber. We were blessed with three. We also graduate Rex Gilzow who played a major role in the success of the offense with his play at Center.
“Defense battled all year. Jayse and Jaxon Gay, Gus David, Bryson Swanson, Jesse Bittick, Blake Zulpo and Kasen Citrano all gave our opponents fits all season. We also had Greyson Rosencranz, Turner Johnson and Russell McDonnold who played major roles in the special teams aspects of our team.
“We look forward to our bright future with Bryson Swanson, Kasen Citrano, Turner Johnson, Jayse Gay, Russell McDonnold, Masen Pursley, Johnny Mercer, Greyson Rosencranz, Jett Johnson and Gus Cochran all returning. They will be aided by Jed Dinger, Hunter Ivers, Gunner Walker, David Walker, Alex Phillips, Maddox Myers and Grady Duncan all of which will be coming to high school after winning the district championship this year in Junior High.
“To you Rex, Jaxon, Jesse, Gus and Blake. You should be proud of the program you are leaving behind. It is in good hands. Thank you seniors.
“Finally, I am truly blessed to be in this position and to be a part of Chester. The community and county showed up and supported each and every night we played. Traveled hundreds of miles and wore Purple and Gold with Pride. us. We are truly grateful for you all. Go Jackets!”
The Yellowjacket boys and girls basketball teams are already practicing for the season. The Lady Jackets participated in the Latexo tournament Nov. 20-22. While they did not earn a win, they are all learning their roles as a young team with a new coach this year.
