CHESTER – Members of the Yellowjacket baseball team picked up some big honors from the Texas High School Coaches Association for the Super Elite Team. Jaxon Gay, Jayse Gay and Turner Johnson were awarded spots on the Super Elite Team while Jesse Bittick earned a superlative with the Gold Glove award. Being named to this team is the highest honor from the THSCA. Only 15 spots are given through the entire 1A division in Texas.

The baseball team has been working hard this summer playing games once a week at Big Sandy facing teams from larger schools such as Groveton, Onalaska and Big Sandy. They have been able to get a lot of game-like reps in, which is a huge help in development for the baseball program.

This gives the seniors a head start on leading the team, and the freshmen a great introduction to the team and time to work with upperclassmen.

Coach Coleman Butter is able to watch the games and support the players, but UIL rules do not allow him to actively coach his team during the summer months. He said that he is excited about the 2026-27 baseball season and is thankful for athletes who spend their time getting better at the game, and parents who are willing to step in and coach when he is not able.
