The Lady Jackets basketball team started the week strong with a 42-32 win vs Hull Daisetta at home on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Ty Cochran had her best game of the season scoring 20, Tegan Toler scored 9, Harley Jones and Caede Pounds each had 6, and Abby Bittick scored one free throw. On Friday, Jan. 23 the Lady Jackets traveled to Spurger to face the Lady Pirates. Caede Pounds was high point scorer with 9, Ty Cochran had 7, Harley Jones 5, Tegan Toler 3, and Sadie Garsee scored 2. Despite their efforts the Lady Jackets came up just short 26-29.
The varsity boys team had another winning week starting Jan. 20 at home defeating Hull Daisetta 41-36. Kasen Citrano scored 22, Braysen Neal had 9, Turner Johnson 4, Jaxon Gay and Jayse Gay each scored three. On Friday, Jan. 23 The Yellowjacket JV and varsity teams traveled to Spurger to face the Pirates.
The JV squad came up short 30-63. Greyson Rosencranz was high point scorer with 17, Cainan Kosina scored 9, Henry David and Gus Cochran each scored two. The varsity boys played a close game until halftime only trailing by two points 26-28.
The Pirates outscored the Jackets by 6 in the third. Going into the fourth quarter the Jackets were down 39-47. The Jackets had a big offensive push in the fourth quarter by Kasen Citrano scoring 14, helped by Braysen Neal, Jaxon Gay, and Turner Johnson each scoring two. A jump shot from the elbow by Citrano with 3 seconds on the clock sealed the game and put the Jackets ahead by one 59-58. Citrano ended the game with 31 points while Turner Johnson scored 10, Braysen Neal 8, Jaxon Gay 7, and Jayse Gay scored 3.
This week both girls and boys teams will host Goodrich on Wednesday, Jan. 28 with girls starting at 4:30 p.m., boys will follow. On Friday, Jan. 30 both teams will be on the road to Leggett starting at 5 p.m.
