Last week, 1-A District Judge Delinda Gibbs-Walker announced her plans to seek reelection for a new term.

Gibbs-Walker, who presides over the 1-A judicial district, which covers Tyler, Jasper and Newton counties, was first elected in 2014, and ran unopposed. She succeeded the late Jerome Owens, who retired in 2014.

Gibbs-Walker said in a news release that she has been honored to serve the people of the three-county court district through the past three terms.

“I look forward to continuing this work. As a District Judge, I am called upon to make tough decisions from time to time, therefore, discernment in this line of work is critical. Please pray with me that God continues to bless the 1-A Judicial District; and that clarity of thought and justice, without friend or favor, is accomplished and seen in all that is done in our district,” she said.

Gibbs-Walker is running on the Republican primary ticket for the position, and at this time, there are no other candidates who have filed.

Gibbs-Walker was an attorney in private practice prior to becoming a district judge. During her time on the bench, she has received many accolades, such as the Better Business Bureau 2024 Distinguished Woman of Southeast Texas. In 2019, she was named “Mrs. East Texas” by the Tyler County Dogwood Festival operating board.

In addition to her judicial duties, Gibbs-Walker has served at her church as a children’s program coordinator and has taught a Texas History co-op for homeschooled children.
