HUNTINGTON – The Lady Eagles showed their talons are still sharp at Huntington High School on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
The first period was riddled with turnovers as the Lady Eagles swooped in one after the other preventing hardly any scoring. Their lead scorer of the game was Rylee Rigsby, a sophomore who wears the #12 jersey, with a game total of 14 points, was taking chances and sinking shots throughout the second period to end the first half.
The second half began as fiercely as its predecessor, with quick rebounds and solid steals from the Lady Eagles. However, the Devilettes began to target Tavy Martin, #3, senior, and others causing five penalties that resulted in 7 out of 10 points effortlessly added to the visitors’ side of the scoreboard.
That being said, Martin’s speed and tenacity helped fuel the other Eagles’ resolve to keep fighting against the barrage of three-point shots from the Devillettes in which inevitably resulted in a 64-41 win for the Huntington home team.
The Eagles’ next targets were the Diboll Lady Lumberjacks on Friday, Jan. 16, in their own nest. The Lady Eagles were able to soar to a 67-61 victory over the Lady ‘Jacks, which was payback for the previous meeting between the two teams, which had resulted in a loss for the Lady Eagles.
