The Lady Jacket volleyball team finished their district season this past week, undefeated District Champions.
On Tuesday, Oct. 21 the Lady Jackets traveled to West Hardin for a non-district matchup and fell in three sets. On Friday, Oct. 24, they hosted Leggett in the final district game and celebrated Senior Night with their four seniors, Lauren Citrano, Lily Payne, Josie Pecina, and Marae Pounds.
It did not take long for the Lady Jackets to defeat the Lady Pirates in three sets with scores of 25-1, 25-8, and 25-7. Payne led aces with 13, Harley Jones had 9, Abby Bittick and Josie Pecina each had four, Lauren Citrano and Caede Pounds had three each, Marae Pounds had one. Marae Pounds led kills with 14, Josie Pecina had 6, Lauren Citrano and Ty Cochran had 5, Lily Payne had three and Caede Pounds had two. Citrano led assists with 19.
This week the Lady Jackets will play a warm-up game in Corrigan on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 4:30 p.m. Playoff information will be available on the Chester Yellowjacket “Buzz” Link on Facebook when determined.
‘Jackets shut-out Apple Springs
The Yellowjacket football team played their first district game at Apple Springs on Friday, Oct. 24, and came away with a big 66-0 victory. While the score shows an offensive game, the defense was really impressive holding the Apple Springs offense to negative 22 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball Blake Zulpo had a big night with 10 tackles, two hurries, and a pass break up. Jaxon Gay had five tackles, a fumble recovery, and a pass break up. Kasen Citrano had three tackles, a fumble recovery with touchdown, and a pass break up. Jayse Gay three tackles two pass break ups, Bryson Swanson three tackles, Jesse Bittick two tackles, one pass break up.
Gus David had a good night defensively with two tackles, a pass break up, and an interception with a touchdown. Greyson Rosencranz and Jett Johnson each helped with one touchdown.
Offensively, Kasen Citrano had two carries for 51 yards with one touchdown, two receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Jaxon Gay had two carries for 46 yards with one touchdown and one reception for 24 yards with one receiving touchdown. Jesse Bittick had four carries for 59 yards for one touchdown, went two for two passing for 47 yards resulting in two touchdowns. Jayse Gay went one for one with a touchdown. Bryson Swanson had two carries for 30 yards with one touchdown. Rex Gilzow had five return yards, and Greyson Rosencranz had one carry for a yard.
This week the Jackets will stay home and host Burkeville for Senior Night, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. This will be the Jackets final district game due to High Island forfeiting their season.
