Lady Jackets come away with sweeps

The Lady Jacket volleyball team traveled to Goodrich on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to face the Lady Hornets in the second round of district play. The Lady Jacket JV team swept the JV Hornets 2-0. Allie Ogden led in assists, Carlen Sluga led in kills, and Sadie Garsee led in digs.

The varsity squad also came away with the sweep with scores of 25-4, 25-7, and 25-11. Lily Read had 11 kills, 3 aces, and one solo block. Marae Pounds had 10 kills, one dig, and one service reception. Lauren Citrano was hot on the service line going 29/29 with five aces. Citrano also had two kills, four digs, and five service receptions. Emma Byrd was behind her going 18/19 with 4 aces on the service line. Byrd led in assists with 29 and also had one kill.

Sydney Brock led defense with 16 digs and 6 service receptions. Ty Cohcran ended with 5 kills and one solo block. 

On Friday, Oct. 11 the Lady Jackets secured their spot in the playoffs by beating Richards in 3 sets with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-23. Lily Read led kills with 23 and also had one ace, one solo block, 11 digs, and 15 service receptions. Marae Pounds had 14 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs, and 3 service receptions. Lauren Citrano and Ty Cochran each had 2 kills. Citrano also went 10/10 on the service line, had 14 digs, and 9 service receptions. Emma Byrd led in assists with 37, went 7/7 on the service line, one kill, and 11 digs.

Brock led defense with 36 digs and 26 service receptions. Brock also went 18/18 on the service line with 3 aces. Lily Payne led in aces with 5 and had 2 digs. The Lady Jackets will round out the second round of district on Tuesday, Oct. 15 vs the Leggett Lady Pirates at J.P. Johnson Gymnasium starting at 4:30pm. On Friday, Oct. 18 the Lady Jackets will host Goodrich to start the third and final round of district play. Game time starts at 4:30 p.m. 

 

Cross-country hosts district meet

Cross-country hosted the district meet at Camp TaKuLa on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Senior Tanner Whitworth placed eighth overall, advancing him to the Regional Meet in Corpus Christi on Oct. 22, at 8:30 a.m.

Other runners were Addison Credle who placed 13th, Elizabeth Lopez came in 16th, Macey Davis 16th. In the JV division Russell McDonnold placed first in the boys run, and Chesney Adams placed sixth for the girls. 

Friday, Oct. 11 the Yellowjacket football team hosted Alpha Omega. The Jackets held on until after halftime but ultimately lost 6-54. The Jackets have a bye this week and will resume play on Friday, Oct. 25 vs Apple Springs.
