Lady Jackets continue undefeated season

The Chester Lady Jacket volleyball team continues their undefeated district season and beating both Richards and Leggett this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 7 the Lady Jackets traveled to Richards and battled a five-set thriller. The Lady Jackets lost the first two sets, 21-25 and 24-26. They were able to come back and win the next three sets, 26-24, 26-24, and 16-14.

Lauren Citrano led aces with three, followed closely by Josie Pecina with two, Lily Payne, Abby Bittick, Sadie Garsee, and Caedence Pounds each had one. Marae Pounds led kills with 22, Citrano had 8, Payne, Harley Jones, and Caedence Pounds had seven each, Ty Cochran helped with three, Abby Bittick had two, Sadie Garsee and Tegan Toler each had one.

Bittick led assists with 21 while Toler had 18. Lily Payne had 4 solo blocks while Caedence Pounds had one.

On Friday, October 10 the Lady Jackets made light work of the Leggett Lady Pirates in three sets winning 25-4, 25-6, and 25-4.

This week the Lady Jackets will travel to Goodrich on Tuesday, Oct. 14, for a 4:30 game time. On Friday, Oct. 17, the Lady Jackets will host Richards at 4:30 p.m.

The Yellowjacket football team suffered their first loss of the season to a tough Alpha Omega team who is ranked #2 in TAPPS.

Jesse Bittick had 20 carries for 287 yards and four rushing touchdowns, two catches for 36 yards and one touchdown, and threw one touchdown pass. Jaxon Gay had 13 carries for 158 yards with two rushing touchdowns, two catches for 30 yards with one touchdown. Kasen Citrano had 11 carries for 109 yards with one rushing touchdown, two catches for 69 yards with one touchdown, and 62 return yards. Jayse Gay had 5 of 6 complete passes for 84 yards with two touchdown passes. Greyson Rosencranz had 22 return yards.

On the defensive side of the ball Jaxon Gay led with 14 tackles and two pass break ups, Bryson Swanson had 7 tackles, Gus David had 6, Blake Zulpo and Jayse Gay each had 5, Kasen Citrano had two tackles and 4 pass break ups. The Jackets fought the entire game but ultimately lost 69-85. This week the Yellowjackets will play Legacy Christian for Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Homecoming Coronation will take place at halftime.

Cross-country district meet held

The District cross-country meet was held at Camp TaKula in Chester this week with several Jackets advancing to the Regional Meet which will be held in Corpus Christi on October 20-21. Russell McDonnold placed fourth; Malia Handley sixth The varsity boys team advanced, coming in third with Russell McDonnold, Bryson Swanson, Braysen Neal, Turner Johnson, Weston Wiseman and Joseph Gray.

Several Junior High runners did well, Daven Walker second; David Walker sixth; Carlee Gay fourth; Kynlee Citrano seventh and Gracie Densley came in eighth.
