NACOGDOCHES – The Lady Jacket softball team participated in the Blues Brothers Softball Tournament in Nacogdoches, held during Feb 26-28.
They faced teams from Joaquin, Alto, Grapeland, Cushing, Woden, and Shelbyville. The Lady Jackets are still learning new positions but put in a lot of work over the weekend. This week the Lady Jackets are on the road Tuesday, March 3 to Colmesneil with a 5 p.m. game time, and on Friday March 6 they will travel to Onalaska for a 5pm game time there as well.
The Yellowjacket baseball team went 3-4 in the Latexo Tournament on February 26-28 beating Wells 15-0, Oakwood 17-3, and Crockett 15-0. The Jackets lost by one to Leon 4-5.
Turner Johnson led the tournament weekend with a .778 average, .846 on base percentage, 7 hits, three singles, three doubles, and one triple, 7 RBI’s, 4 walks, zero strikeouts, 10 runs and four stolen bases.
Jayse Gay was right behind with a .750 average, .818OBP, 6 hits, 5 singles, one double, 7 RBI’s, 8 runs, 3 walks, 0 strikeouts, 1 sacrifice, and four stolen bases. Jesse Bittick has a .667 percentage, .818 OBP, four hits, three doubles, an in the park home run, 7 runs, 5 RBI’s, four walks, and four stolen bases. Rex Gilzow hit a home run out of the park and finished with a .625 average on 5 hits, 5 RBIs, 5 runs. Freshman Greyson Rosencranz had a .500 average, 2 hits, 5 RBI’s, 5 runs. Coltin Kosina had the most RBI’s with 9, on three hits, and also had a stolen base. Jaxon Gay had 9 runs on 4 hits including a triple, 3 RBI’s, 3 walks, and 5 stolen bases. Bryson Swanson helped with one hit, 2 RBI’s, 4 runs, and two stolen bases. Braysen Neal scored three times on three walks.
Turner Johnson was named “Player Of The Week” by Texas High School Baseball for his outstanding weekend performance.
In track news, Kasen Citrano placed second in shot put at the Groveton track meet. This week both girls and boys track teams will participate in the Corrigan track meet with field events starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
