On Tuesday, April 8, the Lady Jackets traveled to Brookeland to face the Lady Cats. The Lady Jackets out hit the Lady Cats eight hits to seven, but ultimately lost the game 3-10. Lauren Citrano and Tegan Toler each collected two hits. Toler also led RBI’s with two. Citrano had two stolen bases. Lily Read, Allie Ogden, Emma Byrd, and Carlen Sluga each added one hit. Ogden took the loss in the circle, allowing three hits, 10 runs, two strikeouts, and 11 walks over three innings. Sadie Garsee came in as relief and gave up four hits, no runs, no strikeouts, no walks.
On Friday, April 11, the Lady Jackets hosted Zavalla for Senior night. Seniors recognized were Emma Byrd, Madi Ogden, and Lily Read. The Lady Jackets scored 11 runs in the first inning with Tegan Toler drawing a walk to score a run, Emma Byrd singled, scoring three runs on an error, Lauren Citrano singled, scoring one run, Lily Read singled, scoring two runs, and a wild pitch scored three runs.
Eight more Lady Jackets scored in the second inning to extend the score 19-2. Madi Ogden singled, scoring two runs, Read singled, scoring one, Allie Ogden doubled, scoring two, and Emma Byrd hit a homerun over left field scoring three runs. Byrd led RBI’s with four. Lily Read went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBI’s. Ogden sisters, Allie and Madi each had two RBI’s, Lauren Citrano and Tegan Toler each picked up one RBI. Ogden earned the win giving up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one, and walking none. Carlen Sluga and Sadie Garsee each appeared in relief. The final score was 19-4 after five innings.
This week the Lady Jackets will travel to Corrigan on April 15 with game time at 6 p.m.
‘Jackets take on Brookeland
The Yellowjacket baseball team also traveled to Brookeland on April 8, and played a tight game with the Wildcats up until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Cats took the 3-1 lead, and ultimately beat the Jackets. Jaxon Gay led hits with three. Waylon Sturrock took the loss, going six innings, giving up three runs on six hits, one strikeout and two walks.
On Friday, April 11 the Jackets beat the Zavalla Eagles 13-1 at home. The Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the first after Cutter Lowe laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Will Thomason singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. The Jackets scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Lowe singled, scoring two, Waylon Sturrock singled, scoring two, and a dropped third strike scored another. A single by Jaxon Gay extended the Jackets lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third inning. The Jackets scored another five runs on three hits by Jayse Gay, Bryson Swanson, and Will Thomason in the bottom of the fourth. Jesse Bittick earned the win allowing one hit and one run, seven strikeouts, and two walks over three innings. Jayse Gay and Will Thomason each came in as relief.
This week the Jackets will travel to Apple Springs on April 17 with game time at 5 p.m.
Track athletes excel at area meet
The Yellowjacket track team traveled to Zavalla for the Area meet where several athletes advanced to the Regional meet which will be held in Seguin on April 17-18.
Regional Qualifiers include Sadie Garsee placing third in 100-meter dash; Kyli Handley placed third in 300-meter hurdles; Turner Johnson fourth in long jump and third in triple jump; Allie Ogden second and Kasen Citrano third in discus.
Relay teams advancing are Kevron Green, Bryson Swanson, Jesse Bittick, and Kasen Citrano in 4x100-meter, placing third. Girls’ 4x100-meter, with Sadie Garsee; Kyli Handley; Lauren Citrano and Marae Pounds placing fourth. The 4x200-meter relay placed second with Kevron Green; Bryson Swanson; Jesse Bittick and Hayden Mahaffey. Also. the 4x400-meter relay placed third, with Clay Busey; Bryson Swanson; Hayden Mahaffey and Gus David.
