The Lady Jacket volleyball teams beat Latexo in straight sets on Sept. 15 at home. The Lady Jackets start district play this week in Leggett on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and on Friday, Sept. 25 they will travel to Spurger with varsity starting at 4:30 p.m. JV will follow.
‘Jackets lose to Pasadena team
The Yellowjacket football team lost 62-27 to a tough Pasadena team on Sept. 17. Turner Johnson had 13 carries for 101 yards with one touchdown, 2 receptions for 41 yards with one touchdown, and threw eight completed passes for 68 yards with one touchdown. Johnson also had a big defensive game with 10 tackles, one pick six, and a hurry.
Kasen Citrano left the game early but had eight carries for 78 yards and five tackles. Jayse Gay had five carries for 17 yards, 4 receptions for 28 yards with one touchdown, and threw two completed passes for 41 yards with a touchdown. Gay had another good night on defense with 14 tackles. Greyson Rosencranz had three receptions totaling 35 yards, five tackles, two hurries, a fumble recovery, and a pin inside the five-yard line. Ethan Gray had five carries for 18 yards, Colton Wiseman had one five-yard reception and three tackles, Bryson Swanson one carry and four tackles, Jett Johnson one carry, Cainan Kosina one carry and three tackles, Russell McDonnold 20 return yards and one carry, Weston Wiseman three on side recoveries, Gunner Walker, David Walker, Hunter Ivers, and Masen Pursley each had one tackle. This week the Jackets travel to Beaumont to face Legacy Christian on Sept. 24 with a 7 p.m. kickoff time.
Cross-Country runs at Colmesneil meet
Cross Country participated in the Colmesneil meet at Lake Tejas on Saturday, Sept. 19. Russell McDonnold placed seventh in the high school division. Daven Walker placed first, and Gracie Densley placed third in junior high.
Yellowjacket cheerleaders participate in Forest Festival
The Yellowjacket Cheer squad participated in the Texas State Forest Festival Spirit Competition on Sept. 20 in Lufkin. The squad brought home third place in the 1a/2a Varsity Game Day division. Garrison won first and Cushing won second, both 2a teams. The Yellowjacket cheerleaders had the highest 1a score beating Broaddus and Zavalla.
