Lambre named as new veterans service officer

WOODVILLE – The Tyler County Commissioners Court voted to approve the appointment of Amy Lambre to serve as the county’s new veterans service officer.

Lambre will succeed long-serving VSO Tina Cleberg, who stepped down last November due to health reasons. Pct. 1 Commissioner Joe Blacksher, who serves as the veterans’ office department head, spoke to Lambre’s qualifications during a brief meeting of the commissioners’ court last Thursday morning.

Blacksher said that there were five candidates who applied for the position, and a committee that was comprised of himself; Judge Milton Powers; County Treasurer Leann Monk and Martha Kimbrough, of the Veterans Service Office, conducted the process to screen applicants.

The county adopted a policy to give preference to veterans when hiring for the position, and Blacksher said all the candidates were veterans, and added that Lambre has multiple qualifications for the position, including intimate knowledge of the Veterans Affairs system and current work with veterans.

“I think she’s going to be a great asset to the county,” Blacksher said. “I think there’s so much she can bring to our county for our veterans.”

Judge Powers added that all the applicants to the job were great, qualified candidates, and that Lambre is already working with veterans.

“All the interviews went well, but based on her qualifications, we made the right choice,” Powers said.

Interlocal agreement with Ivanhoe approved

The commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Ivanhoe that involves the exchange of equipment and services between the city and the county, specifically Precinct 1.

Blacksher spoke about this item and said that Ivanhoe has a Gradall that is too big for the city’s usage. The city wishes to transfer the Gradall to the county, for use in Pct. 1, in exchange for the use of the county’s reclaimer for road maintenance.

According to the agreement, the county shall make the reclaimer available to Ivanhoe for 30 days per calendar year, with routine maintenance falling on the city.

“Everything with interlocal agreements has to be fair and valuable,” Blacksher said, and added that the city council of Ivanhoe will have to approve the mutual agreement, as well.
