CHESTER – A Corrigan man is in custody after an incident at the BOM Bank in Chester, which included a scuffle with law enforcement.
According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, Wesley Harris, a 28-year-old Corrigan resident, is in jail on two felony assault of a peace officer charges, as well as charges for resisting arrest, terroristic threat and possession of a controlled substance. Weatherford said the incident began at 4:15 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 3, when deputies with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the bank on a report of a suspicious male subject, who had told employees at the nearby Chester Exxon store that he was going to break into the bank.
Weatherford said the deputies received a description of the man and were told he was attempting to gain entry into the bank.
When the deputies arrived on scene, and made contact with Harris, he began pulling away and actively resisting the attempts to place him into handcuffs. In the scuffle, he struck one deputy in the face, and caused visible injuries, and kicked another in the knee. Additional deputies arrived, and Harris was secured when a small clear baggie containing 2.5 grams of meth was found on his person.
Harris is in custody on bonds totaling $145,000.
