BEAUMONT – Last week, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced the appointment of Ana Mijares to serve as the new Beaumont District Engineer.
Mijares began her new appointment on Wednesday, Oct. 1. She replaces Martin N. Gonzalez, who left TxDOT in August to pursue an opportunity closer to home.
A TxDOT veteran, Mijares began her TxDOT career in 1993 as a summer intern in the Lufkin District. After earning her B.S. in Civil Engineering, she joined the Lufkin district as an Engineering Assistant. She rotated through multiple offices in the district before becoming an Assistant Area Engineer.
In 2006, Mijares moved to the private sector, contributing to transportation projects across several Texas districts and working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on hurricane protection in Louisiana.
She returned to the Lufkin district of TxDOT in 2012 as Central Design Lead. She then became District Design Engineer in 2014, overseeing $785 million in construction. In 2020, she was appointed Director of Transportation Planning and Development, where she managed a 10-year portfolio and delivered $400 million in projects.
In 2022, Mijares became Deputy District Engineer for the Beaumont District. In 2024, under her support and guidance, the district successfully delivered a record-breaking $960 million in construction projects. She is also very proud of the recent implementation of smart work zones on the Rainbow Bridge Rehabilitation Project and the creation of the first Traffic Incident Management (TIM) team in the district.
Mijares earned her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M in 1996 and received her Professional Engineering license in 2004.
