WOODVILLE – “Stay gold, Ponyboy!” is one of those lines in literature that, even if one doesn’t know its origin, they’ve surely heard it at some point.
The line comes from the classic 1967 coming-of-age novel The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, and that story is coming to life in downtown Woodville on the Emporium Stage for three shows, running Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The play, which was adapted from the novel by Christopher Sergel, will run at the Emporium at 7 p.m. for the July 31 and August 1 dates and at 2 p.m. for the Sunday, August 2 matinee showing. Tickets to the show are $20 each for the first and second rows, and all other rows are $15 each.
The story details the conflict between two rival gangs – the “Socs” and the “Greasers,” and is narrated by teenaged protagonist Ponyboy Curtis.
The plot details an escalating rivalry between the two gangs, and explores the interpersonal relationships between the teenaged characters.
The Emporium is located at 216 West Bluff in downtown Woodville. Tickets can be reserved by calling 409-200-0167.
