Playoff possibilities for Tyler County teams

Posted

This is the last week in the regular season for high school football in the region.

With that in mind, it is a bit clearer to see how the playoffs might start to look for some Tyler County teams.

In Woodville’s district, 12- 3A Division II, the Eagles are all set to play Kountze on Friday, after a bye week. That game will determine the second and third place teams in the district. At present, the Eagles are behind the Lions in the district standings, and those other Eagles – Newton – are in pole position with a perfect district record of 6-0. Woodville is standing at a 4-1 in district.

A little further north up US 69, the Colmesneil Bulldogs are stoked from a big homecoming win against Evadale, last Friday (42-28).

That win brings the ‘Dogs’ district showing to 2-2, and a third place standing, at present in the District 12-2A, Division II ranks.

The Bulldogs play West Hardin this Friday, and the winner of that game will claim the last playoff spot, unless sixth-ranked Hull-Daisetta manages to beat Evadale.

Over in Chester, the lone six-man team in Tyler County, the Yellowjackets are undefeated, and as District 12-A, Division I champions, they’ve captured the gold for the first time in a decade.

The other playoff-bound team from this district will be determined after Friday’s match between Apple Springs and Burkeville. The Bi-District game is scheduled for Nov. 13-15.
