JASPER – New Year’s Day will mark a new chapter beginning for Maegan Rains-Pope, as she will be sworn-in as the new county auditor for Jasper County.
Pope, of Colmesneil, who served as an assistant auditor under Jackie Skinner for the Tyler County Auditor’s office, was recently appointed by district judges Craig Mixson and Delinda Gibbs-Walker to serve in the position, following the resignation of Melissa Smith, who will transfer to the Jasper County Clerk’s office.
Pope’s $5,000 surety bond was approved in a special session of the Jasper County Commissioners Court on Monday, and her salary was set.
