Running on Credit to headline Second Saturday event

WOODVILLE – What began as a trial experiment to have a good party on the square and to get folks out and about is about to enjoy a third month. They say the third time’s a charm, but Tyler Countians have already been turning out in large numbers to the Second Saturday on the Square events.

As its name states, the events, which are planned for the second Saturday evenings each month, are evenings featuring live music, food vendors and “community celebration,” according to organizers. The events, in the first two months alone, have grown to feature more vendors and games along Charlton Street in downtown Woodville, which is shut down for Second Saturday during the event.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawnchairs and coolers with the drinks of their choice.

For November’s event, the music booked includes regionally popular country-rockers Running on Credit, and Southeast Texas songbird Grace Rigby opening, solo acoustic.

Rigby, who is a frequent presence in bars, clubs and events around the Golden Triangle area, will perform at her second Second Saturday event, as she opened for the Ethan Osborne Band at the inaugural September happening.
“Guests can expect an energetic show filled with local talent, family-friendly atmosphere, and the unmistakable spirit of Tyler County,” according to the organizers of the event.
The fun begins at 5 p.m. with Rigby kicking things off, followed by the headliner act, Running on Credit.

Running on Credit, since starting as a band a few years ago, has been a steady presence through the region, in clubs and on festival stages.

Led by the singer/guitarist/songwriter Sage Elmore, the band consists of Elmore; singer/guitarist Nick Wheeler; bassist Rogelio Menchaca; drummer Chris Cooper and pedal steel guitarist Chase Curtis.

Elmore said that the band is “a bunch of buddies who work all week and enjoy cutting loose on the weekend.”

November’s Second Saturday already has around 30 different vendors scheduled to participate, which organizers say, range from local eateries to handmade crafts and boutique goods. The event will also feature a classic car showcase.

Cypress and Creed, along with the county’s Tourism Board, present the Second Saturday events, and several businesses in the county have begun helping to sponsor the event.

In a statement from the organizers, the event’s growth is proof of “why community matters.”

“It’s about bringing people together, supporting our local businesses, and showcasing the talent and heart that make Tyler County so special,” the statement read.
