TYLER COUNTY – The summer break, full of fun times with friends and family, not to mention, plenty of relaxation, will soon approach its end for students across Tyler County.
Beginning next week, the county’s five school districts will once again open their doors to begin instruction for the 2025-26 school year. Chester ISD will be the first to begin, on Wednesday, August 6. The week following, the other four districts will begin, with Colmesneil and Warren beginning classes on Monday, August 11 and Spurger and Woodville on Wednesday, August 13.
To kick off the new school year, there are a variety of events planned for the schools in Tyler County, which are designed to acclimate students to the coming year of instruction, as well as parents and community members to new teachers and new facilities at some districts.
Chester ISD is hosting a “Meet the Teacher” event, which will also run concurrent with an open house, on Monday, August 4.
Both will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30. The open house will allow students, parents and community members to come and tour the new Chester High School building.
Chester ISD will also host a meeting for seniors on Monday, with two time slots available: 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Senior students, along with a parent or guardian, must attend one of the meeting times in order to receive class schedules.
Colmesneil ISD is hosting its “Meet the Teacher” event on Thursday, August 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the different CISD campuses. On Friday, August 8, there will be a Midnight Madness pep rally, beginning at 10 p.m., and starting at the R.B. Moffett Gym.
The Colmesneil High School seniors will also get the chance on the first day of school to take part in a tasty tradition, the Senior Sunrise breakfast, which will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Bulldog Café. That event will include a first day of school group photo for the seniors, and a parade leading to the campus after the breakfast concludes. Seniors can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $10.
Spurger ISD is hosting a running start – quite literally, the event is called that – for its students. The Running Start will take place on Friday, August 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Minter Gymnasium, with a break in the event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Warren ISD is hosting its “Meet the Teacher” event on Thursday, August 7, at all of its campuses. For Fred Elementary students, it will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Warren Elementary students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers as follows: Pre-Kindergarten through second grade – 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and third through fifth grades: 2-3:30 p.m.
Warren Junior High Meet the Teacher will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Warren High School will have theirs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will also be a Meet the Warriors event at 7 p.m. at George “Bo” Isaacks Stadium.
Woodville ISD has a lot to celebrate with the completion of a new Woodville Elementary campus, which is finished and ready to be populated with young learners. That change combines the Wheat Elementary and Woodville Intermediate campuses under one roof, and all Pre-K through fifth graders are now classified as elementary students at WISD.
WISD “Meet the Teacher” will take place on all campuses on Monday, August 11. The times for the different campuses are as follows: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Woodville Elementary; 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for Woodville Middle School and 4:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. for Woodville High School.
All online registration procedures, including vaccinations or affidavits, must be completed before Woodville Elementary, Middle and High School students receive teacher and class schedules, according to WISD Superintendent Lisa Meysembourg.
Meet the Eagles is also scheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Eagle Summit. All parents, guardians, students and community members are invited to attend this event.
Another important note for parents who still have school supplies and school clothes to buy: the statewide tax-free weekend is next weekend.
Shoppers can save money on clothes and school supplies during the period, which runs from Friday August 8 through midnight on Sunday, August 10.
State law exempts sales tax on qualified items, such as clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks, priced below $100, which, according to the State Comptroller’s office, saves shoppers an average of $8 on every $100 spent.
