The Spurger Pirate track teams traveled to Big Sandy for a meet last Wednesday, and several of them brought home medals.
On the girls’ side, Naomi Morin brought home the gold in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She also placed second in the high jump competition.
Kyley Perry earned a silver medal in the 1600-meter run and third place in the 400-meter dash, and Kynlee Hebert placed second in the 800-meter run.
The boys' Pirate track and field athletes also earned several medals. The 4x4 relay team of Caleb Grissom, Zech Grissom and Dawson Heim took first place. Caleb Grissom also earned a gold medal for the 300-meter hurdles and Zech Grissom got the gold in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Caleb also got the silver in the 100-meter dash.
Cauy Crain got a second-place finish in the shot put; Logan Self earned second place in the discus. In other running events, Pirates Jayden Pastrana got two third-place finishes in the 3200-meter and 1600-meter runs and Kyle Abdul earned the second in both the 800-meter and 400-meter.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates' next meets are as follows: the junior high teams will compete at the District meet on Monday, March 30 at Hull-Daisetta, at 3 p.m., and the high school teams will compete at the District meet at Hull-Daisetta on Wednesday, April 8, with time to be announced.
