CHESTER – Tyler County lawmen recently made an arrest of a New Waverly man, and have charged him with a multitude of offenses, including felony theft and engaging in organized criminal activity.
According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, deputies were made aware of a stolen lowboy trailer, which was reported as being stolen from a residence in Polk County. The trailer was reportedly carrying a red and white motorcycle and headed toward the Chester area, on the morning of Sunday, March 23.
Weatherford said that deputies were able to locate a pickup hauling the trailer just 15 minutes after receiving the call, at FM 1745 and US 287.
The deputies made a stop on Charles Lee Denton, a 41-year-old resident of New Waverly. Weatherford said that while deputies spoke with Denton, they were able to positively identify the trailer as the one that was stolen, along with the motorcycle and numerous other items stolen from the residence.
While searching the truck, deputies also discovered 8.7 grams of methamphetamine, as well as a small amount of marijuana.
Denton was taken into custody, and had his bonds set at $106,000 by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Tina Self, and is awaiting transfer to the Polk County Jail.
Denton was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for the meth; possession of marijuana and driving with an invalid driver license. He also is charged with three felony warrants out of Polk County for possession of a controlled substance; theft and engaging in organized criminal activity.
