CHESTER – Authorities are looking for leads in a bank robbery that occurred last week in Chester, and are looking to the public for help in making arrests.
According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, July 10, when deputies with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a dispatch report of an alarm at the BOM Bank on US 287 in Chester.
When the deputies arrived, Weatherford said, they observed a broken glass door and damage to the banks safe, along with other evidence. Footage from the bank’s security camera showed two suspects breaking the bank door and entering. In the video, they attempted to open the safe with power tools, but were unsuccessful. One of the suspects is shown with a long-sleeve shirt bearing the word “Security.” Both suspects in the video capture are Black males. One of the suspects also removed the mask he was wearing during the course of the incident, and his face can be clearly seen from one of the stills from the video capture.
Weatherford said the suspects had both left before the deputies arrived on the scene. At present, the FBI, the Texas Rangers and an investigator with the Tyler County District Attorney’s Office are assisting with the investigation of this crime.
Crime Stoppers is also asking the public for tips. If anyone knows anything about this crime or can identify the suspects in the image taken from the security camera, they can either call TCSO at 409-283-2172 or Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS.
