SAN MARCOS – The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) last week announced the 2025-26 Academic All-State teams for football.

The award, which is given by THSCA in partnership with Walmart, honors student athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to both competitive sports and the classroom.

Three Woodville Eagles, all graduating seniors from the 2025 season – Dustin Barlow; Kenneth Rigsby and Ethan Shird – were all named to honorable mention on this ranking, which has athletes from across the state named to first, second or honorable mention teams.

As one of THSCA’s most prestigious honors, this award recognizes students from fourteen different UIL sports, who excel in three categories: GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT performance.

To be eligible for nomination, an athlete must meet the following criteria:

  • An athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team
  • Of good moral character
  • A Senior
  • Have an overall grade point average of 92 or above

These honorees represent the spirit of dedication, discipline, and determination that THSCA and Walmart work to encourage in students across the state.

The THSCA is proud to announce a new partnership with Walmart as the official sponsor of the THSCA Academic All-State Teams. The partnership between Walmart and THSCA underscores a shared commitment to education, leadership, and the lifelong impact of high school athletics. With Walmart’s support, the Academic All-State Teams award will continue to honor the outstanding achievements of our Texas student athletes.

In a statement from THSCA, the organization stated that the incentive for the award was to recognize how difficult it can be to manage academics, and to excel at them, while simultaneously participating in athletics.

“Their hard work has not gone unnoticed. The THSCA Academic All-State Teams recognize senior high school athletes, trainers and managers who excel ... THSCA applauds these student-athletes for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court.”
