SPURGER – A routine traffic stop resulted in a pair of arrests and felony charges on both suspects in the Spurger area.

According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, the incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, Feb. 10, when deputies with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling in the area. They executed a stop on an Oldsmobile travelling along FM 92 for a traffic violation.

The occupants of the car were identified as Lawanda Mae Gonzales, a 42-year-old Kirbyville woman and her passenger, Hunter Lee Taylor, 43, also of Kirbyville. Gonzales told the deputies she had no valid driver license or insurance for the vehicle.

Taylor was found to have a suspended license, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a plastic baggie with a white, crystalline substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Gonzales and Taylor were both taken into custody and transported to the Tyler County Jail. Both were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for the meth, and Gonzales was also charged with driving without a license and no financial responsibility. Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Tina Self set each of their bonds at $30,000.
