WOODVILLE – “A shining light in the community” is how Tyler County Judge Milton Powers described Dean Rivers.

Rivers, who retired from her long-time position as a deputy county clerk, was celebrated at a party in the Commissioners Courtroom on Tuesday afternoon. At the event, several elected officials and county employees spoke about Rivers, and described many facets of her being, from her immense knowledge and willingness to always help out wherever needed to her community leadership and strong religious faith.

“There’s never been a question she didn’t know the answer to,” said Sheriff Bryan Weatherford.

Rivers, who worked for Tyler County for 35 years, said she is going to take a low-key approach easing into retirement life, but will look to strengthen her relationship with God.

“My mother always told me that ‘where there’s a will there’s a way,’ and Dean is living proof of that,” said former county clerk Donece Gregory.

Gregory said that she and Rivers have had a lot of fun through the years, shared secrets and many travels. “We’re more than co-workers, she’s a friend,” Gregory said, before describing the always-fashionable Rivers, whom she said, “never wears the same thing twice.”
