Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency event? The statewide STEAR program is here to help. STEAR is an acronym that stands for State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry.
It allows for residents with medical needs to obtain help in evacuating during an emergency, if they register their information with the state.
According to the STEAR website, the registry is free and provides local emergency planners and responders with additional information on the needs of their communities. By helping local authorities identify and reach people who might need assistance during emergencies, it helps them to prioritize checks and support for the most vulnerable of residents.
Texas communities use the registry information in different ways. Available services will vary by community. Residents can register at any time on the STEAR website, located at https://stear.texas.gov, or by calling 2-2-1.
