WOODVILLE – It’s often said that it’s impossible to go into Walmart without running into someone you know. Recognition at the store proved to be the tip law enforcement needed to apprehend one wanted Woodville man.

According to Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, on the evening of Friday, Nov. 14, information came in to deputies that Johnny Johnson, a 39-year-old Woodville man, had just left Walmart. Johnson was wanted on a variety of charges, including felony charges for assault, theft and two evading arrest charges.

One deputy travelling south on US 69, saw Johnson walking on the shoulder of the highway, and attempted to stop him, but the suspect ran into a wooded area and was able to evade the deputy, Weatherford said.

Several agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Tyler County District Attorney’s Office, the Woodville Police Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Forest State Police assisted Tyler County Sheriff’s Office in searching the area for Johnson.

At 5:30 that same evening, Johnson was located and arrested in front of Senor Toro’s restaurant. He was taken to the Tyler County Jail, and Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Mike Hughes set his bonds totaling $180K.
