KIRBYVILLE – A road game against the Kirbyville Wildcats ended in a loss for the Warren Warriors, but it was a hard-fought game with plenty of highlights for the visiting team.
The Wildcats seized on an early Warrior lead, and managed to score 28 points in the first quarter and 20 in the second, but the Warrior defense held them off in the second half of the game, and in the end, the final score was 35-48 in the Wildcats’ favor.
In spite of the Warrior loss, senior running back James Barlow turned in an impressive performance, with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just 12 carries.
Seniors Zack Redwine and Slade Mashaw also scored one TD apiece for Warren, and each notched seven carries. Sophomore Kash Wood also scored for the Warriors.
The Warriors are winless so far this season, and start district this week with a game on the road in New Waverly. They will play the Bulldogs this Friday, Sept. 26 with a 7 p.m. kick-off. New Waverly is coming off a win over Huntington last week, their first win of the season.
