High energy bills are a challenge for any household. This is especially true for low-income households and those living on a fixed income. One way to combat concern is by home weatherization.
The Greater East Texas Community Action Program is pleased to provide weatherization services in Tyler County and the surrounding area. Community Action staff are making a special effort to reach households in the area.
This federal program comes at no cost to home residents and is overseen by rigid monitoring and oversight. Weatherization addresses energy saving measures in homes to make them more efficient. Generally the end result is lower utility bills. The program does not provide extensive rehab work. Elderly, disabled, families with young children and the working poor are the target households. Proof of household income is required.
Henry Simon, Home Assessor, commented, “East Texas is known for humidity which means extreme temperatures that impact health, safety and comfort. Weatherization provides measures to make the home easier to heat and cool. Energy efficient homes truly save dollars for the resident. Rural east Texas has a lot of need and limited resources. Serving rural east Texas is the focus of Greater East Texas Community Action”
Karen Swenson, Executive Director commented, “We have special funding for Tyler County residents and we hope to add that to available federal dollars. The work is free and could be very helpful to local residents. We really want to encourage people to inquire and apply. “
