WOODVILLE – An employee of Woodville ISD was arrested last week and given multiple charges for injury to a child.
Chelsea Sheri Brittain, a 29-year-old Warren resident, has since bonded out of the Tyler County Jail, on bonds totaling $75,000 on five charges of injury to a child/elderly/disabled /w/ intended bodily injury. Brittain, according to public records, was employed with the district as an educational aide.
According to records from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Brittain is under investigation and has had an expired teacher certification since August 7, 2025.
According to Texas law, a person with a mental, physical or developmental disability possesses a disability that substantially limits one of more major life activities. Brittain’s educational duties were reportedly within the life skills division of WISD.
WISD issued a statement that the district is aware of the arrest, and notes that the allegations were previously reported by the district, stating that WISD "immediately notified the appropriate authorities upon learning of the initial report on February 10." WISD also stated that Brittain is no longer employed by the district, and has not been since Feb. 11.
WISD also notified parents of students who were directly involved at that time, and the district stated it is committed to full cooperation with law enforcement, as well as Child Protective Services and other state-level authorities involved in the investigation and possible prosecution.
The law prohibits any bodily injury, serious bodily injury or mental impairment to these individuals, and the charges, which are third-degree felony charges, can carry up to 2-10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine, if convicted, per charge.
