WOODVILLE – For its first meeting of the new year, the Woodville ISD Board of Trustees had a slew of recognitions and acknowledgements to make.

First on deck was the slate of trustees, themselves. District superintendent Lisa Meysembourg proclaimed January as School Board Appreciation Month, and said it was set aside as a time to publicly acknowledge and congratulate school board trustees, nationwide, for all they do for public school districts.

WISD’s Board of Trustees includes board president Jimmy Tucker and trustees Josh McClure; Richard “Kooter” Shaw; John Wilson; John David Risinger; Kris Fowler and Bryan Shirley.

Representatives from each of WISD’s campuses came forward at Monday night’s meeting to present the board members with unique gifts.

For Wheat Elementary and Woodville Intermediate, students collected T-shirts toward the goal of creating quilts for each of the trustees. Those shirts used to create the quilts are from different school functions from those campuses, which will serve as reminders for the board when the campuses move to the new Woodville Elementary campus next school year.

Woodville Middle School principal Andrew Ireland said that students at WMS created personalized artwork for each board member made from thumb and hand prints, and students from Woodville High School gave personalized gifts to each of the trustees.

Next up, the board recognized outgoing WMS principal Gina Kenner Greaff. Greaff was presented a plaque in honor of her many years of service to WISD by trustee Bryan Shirley.

Tucker said Greaff “has given a huge part of her life to our students,” and acknowledged that out of 30 years in the field of education, she’d worked for WISD for 29 of them.

The board also presented congratulatory certificates for the Eagle football team and coaching staff to commemorate their successful, state championship game-reaching season.

Tucker said the team had made the community proud and brought not only Woodville and Tyler County together, but all of the Southeast Texas region.
