WISD welcomes new trustee

WOODVILLE – At its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, the Woodville ISD Board of Trustees welcomed its newest trustee, Lauren Conner.

Conner was sworn in by Tammy Watts, along with returning trustee Josh McClure.

Conner had filed to run for the seat occupied by long-serving trustee John Wilson, in the last election. Wilson announced his retirement from the board, and without anyone else running, the election was cancelled, and the seat went to Conner.

Before the regular agenda, the board got to business in reorganizing its structure. Jimmy Tucker was voted in as returning president; Josh McClure will serve as vice president and Richard “Kooter” Shaw was voted to serve as secretary.

During her regular report to the board, WISD superintendent Lisa Meysembourg gave an attendance report, which included numbers from the district’s snapshot day of Oct. 31.

The snapshot day is for school districts to submit enrollment figures to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) for the purpose of realignment and reclassification. Meysembourg gave the numbers of average daily attendance (ADA) on that date as 548 students in Woodville Elementary; 256 in Woodville Middle School and 363 for Woodville High School.

Insofar as the UIL redistricting goes, Meysembourg said the district is a “solid 3A,” but the decrease in numbers will determine whether or not WISD is a division I or II school for alignment.
