Woodville PD looking for help regarding park incident

WOODVILLE – The Woodville Police Department is looking toward the public for help regarding an incident that allegedly occurred last Sunday.

According to Mike McCulley, the Woodville chief of police, officers received third-party information that an individual displayed a firearm during an incident that took place at the Woodville City Park on Sunday afternoon. “We have not received an official report from anyone,” McCulley said.

“Based on third-party contact, we were informed there was some sort of physical fight that occurred at the city park on Sunday afternoon regarding some individuals playing basketball,” McCulley said, and noted that the incident was posted about on a Woodville-centric Facebook page, which drew many comments.

Woodville Police got a third-party call, McCulley said, once a firearm was allegedly displayed, and now the officers need help in identifying the suspect who displayed the gun, which was reported to be a rifle or a shotgun, according to McCulley.

“We sent officers to investigate, and there were still people there, but nobody had seen or heard anything,” he added. “We’re worried there might be future issues with the same parties.”

McCulley said that if the public can provide law enforcement with any assistance with who might have been involved with this, it could help solve why the incident occurred.

“We just need to know who we need to be looking for, so we can know why this happened and if there is any potential of this happening again,” he said.

Anyone with any knowledge of the incident can call the Woodville Police Department at 409-283-5262, and ask for Sgt. Mark DeShazo, who is investigating the incident, or for Capt. Jathan Borel. McCulley said any tips on the case can be made anonymously.
