WOODVILLE – At Monday night’s regular council meeting, mayor Amy Bythewood proclaimed the month of January as National Human trafficking Prevention Month in the city.

Council adjourned to go into executive session at 6:04 p.m. Upon returning to open session, Bythewood announced that no action was taken.

Danita Skinner was approved by council to be appointed city secretary, effective upon the retirement date of Terri Bible.

Mayor Bythewood made the following statements about the state playoff game in December: “I have got to tell you how amazing it was for the community to get together for the state championship game. It was amazing going up there, from stopping at Woody’s (Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville) and seeing everybody, to stopping at a Buc-ee’s on the way back. It was a huge community effort, and it was amazing for everyone’s participation; the Woodville side was packed (at AT&T stadium). We definitely want to congratulate the team for making it that far, to see the stands full was amazing for Woodville”.

Police chief Mike McCulley informed council of modifications to Monday’s MLK activities. McCulley commented that due to anticipated inclement weather on January 20, there will be a march beginning at the city park, ending at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Cobb Mill Road. At press time, McCulley was also uncertain about any activities at the school, but did comment that there was nothing planned, due to the weather.

Council approved all meeting minutes and financials for November and December 2024, and adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
