WOODVILLE – Mayor Amy Bythewood began Monday evening’s council meeting by reading a proclamation regarding the devasting floods in the hill country over the Fourth of July weekend.
The proclamation read, in summary, “the Texas hill country and the entire Texas region sustained an unprecedented tropical rain event that resulted in massive flash flooding that resulted in the tragic loss of life…our hearts as a people are collectively aching for the families of loved ones who are still missing, or perished….for our first responders who are putting their lives on the line to rescue and recover the lost, even while the waters raged, Texans waded into the flood waters to help rescue fellow Texans.”
“ This tragedy has affected every community throughout the state, and Woodville has lost a beloved granddaughter….it is right and fitting that the people of Woodville should join with others across the state, country, and world to seek God’s wisdom…comfort those who experienced loss and ask for His merciful intervention and healing in a time of crisis…we urge everyone of all faiths, religions, traditions, and backgrounds to offer prayers for the healing of individuals, safety of our first responders, rescue and recovery of all the victims, and the rebuilding and restoration of the region struck by this tragedy.”
