Woodville topples Coldspring Lady Trojans in four-set thriller

COLDSPRING — If you were anywhere near the Coldspring gym on Friday, you already know the Lady Trojans hosting the visiting Woodville Lady Eagles put on a volleyball showdown packed with energy, hustle, and a little bit of controversy.

In a four-set nail-biter, the final tally went to the Lady Eagles, 3-1.

Woodville took the opening set, 25-19, but the Trojans fired back in the second, taking it 25-22 and evening the match. From there, the intensity only grew.

The third and fourth sets could have gone either way, both ending in razor-thin 25-23 scores. That’s where the crowd’s frustration set in, after several very questionable calls and re-dos left both benches and fan bases shaking their heads.

The Lady Eagles are set to dominate in district, with their district opener against another team of Lady Eagles (of Newton) on Tuesday. Scores unavailable at press time.

The Lady Eagles also play Warren, on the Lady Warriors’ home court this Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
