COLMESNEIL – A wreck that occurred on Monday morning near Colmesneil resulted in two fatalities and life-threatening injuries.
According to the preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 8 a.m. on the morning of Monday, May 4, just south of the Colmesneil city limits. According to the report, a Nissan four-door car was heading northbound along US 69, when a 2011 Toyota sedan was heading south.
DPS investigators found that the Nissan crossed into the opposite lane and hit the Toyota head-on.
Alexandria Harvey, who was driving the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Harvey was a 31-year-old from Colmesneil.
The driver of the Toyota, Mai Thi Tran, a 68-year-old woman from Jasper, was also pronounced deceased by a Justice of the Peace.
Tributes to both women poured out from friends and co-workers on social media following the tragic, fatal accident.
Becca Ward, a friend and business partner of Tran, wrote that her friends referred to her as “Marry,” and that she gave some the ability to own their own businesses. Tran was the owner of the VIP Spa nail salon in Woodville.
Harvey, who worked in healthcare, was remembered by friends and family for her love of softball during her high school years at Colmesneil ISD, as well as her dedication to the residents she cared for at Woodville Health and Rehab.
In a public post to Facebook, a lifelong friend and co-worker of Harvey’s, Grace Barnett, wrote that she grew up cheering Harvey on at softball games and that she wasn’t “just someone I knew” but part of her childhood, whom she “looked up to…like [she was] an Olympian.”
Two passengers, who have not been identified, but are both men, ages 28 and 22, were in the Nissan, and were transported to a hospital in Kingwood with life-threatening injuries. No update is current on their conditions at this time.
The crash resulted in a shut-down of the highway, with first responders diverting traffic to detour to FM 3065 for both directions. The conditions on the road and atmospherically were clear during the time of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.
