The Yellowjacket basketball teams travelled to High Island last Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Lady Jackets started the night off with a 49-23 victory. Abby Grimes led with 12 points, Ty Cochran and Carlen Sluga each had 8, Tegan Toler scored 7, Kyli Handley 5, Sydney Brock 4, Madi Myers and Allie Ogden each scored two.
The boys also picked up a 46-29 win. Hunter Luther scored 21, Kasen Citrano scored 16, Bryson Swanson 5, PJ Purvis and Jayse Gay each scored two.
On Friday, January 10 the Jackets hosted Burkeville and both picked up wins at home. The Lady Jackets won with a score of 44-17. Kyli Handley scored 13, Sydney Brock had 10, Lauren Citrano 8, Abby Grimes 6, Carlen Sluga and Tegan Toler each scored 4.
The boys team played a close game but came out ahead by two with a score of 56-54. Kasen Citrano scored 25, PJ Purvis and Hunter Luther each scored 10, Jayse Gay had 4, Turner Johnson 3, and Braysen Neal scored one.
This week the Yellowjackets will travel to Hull-Daisetta on Jan. 14, with a girls tip off time set for 6 p.m. The boys will follow. On Friday, Jan. 17 the Jackets will host Spurger at JP Johnson Gymnasium with girls starting at 6pm, and boys following.
